What's it all about?

Cherokee Gun Club has formed a "Ladies League".  The purpose of this new shoot discipline is to:

·         Encourage more women to participate in shooting sports

·         Foster a nurturing environment to promote participation in other shooting disciplines such as IDPA, USPSA, Skeet, Trap, Sporting Clays, ERS, Cowboy, IHMSA and Bulls-eye

Who are Welcome?

All women aged 21 or older, girls age 10 or older with parent.  Participants must have taken an NRA FIRST Steps course*,  already be familiar with firearms.

What do I need to bring?

  • You need a handgun that is .38 caliber or 9mm or higher that holds at least 6 rounds.
  • You must have a holster
  • You must have a belt
  • You must have at least one extra magazine or speedloader for a revolver
  • You should bring 50 rounds
  • Entry fee is $10

SAFETY FIRST

We run a cold range.  Guns are ONLY LOADED under direct supervision of the Range Officer.  Do not bring loaded guns to the range.

Our first rule is "DON'T SHOOT ANYBODY".  As such, no unsafe gun handling will be permitted.  The first instance you'll be asked to leave for the day.  The second time, you'll be asked not to come back.

Fun

If you're looking for serious competition, this might not be for you.  There will be much giggling and cracking wise.

Come on out!  We don't bite.... I promise.

What will we be doing?

Fair question.  Each meeting we will shoot 4-5 different scenarios.  3 - 4 of the scenarios will use your gun.

This is to build your confidence and proficiency with your own gun.

We will start out by doing a "warm up" shooting exercise.  The point of this will be to let you track your progress over time.  You may use a .22 caliber handgun for this if you want.

We'll then shoot 2-3 scenarios based on the rules of the International Defensive Pistol Association (rulebook at http://www.idpa.com/)

The final scenario will use a single gun that everyone will shoot.  That way you get to try something new!

But I've never competed before...

No problem.  Choose your level.

Ladies will be organized into three categories:

  • Novice – “I’ve seen a gun before and have taken a course”
  • Trained – “I’ve had an NRA course and have participated in a league, but don’t compete in any other events”
  • Expert – “I compete with a gun regularly or use a gun for my job (i.e. Law Enforcement Officer)”

Cherokee Ladies League June 20th Match
Scenario 1 - Bull! - Warm-up

We will do this exercise every Ladies League.  We'll shoot the same targets so you can track your progress.  This is NOT a timed event.  Best score wins.

Setup & Procedure:

B8 Target at 10 yards.  Shooter loads their gun and returns it to the table.  Load 10 rounds if the gun will hold it.

Scoring: - Score is based on the value of the targets

Scenario 2 - Shootin' in the Rain

This is a self-defense scenario.  Creeps don't take a break when the weather is bad.  You are on your porch when 3 bad guys rush your yard intent to do you harm.

SETUP:  3 IDPA targets at 10 yards, 1 yard apart.  Shooter stands at rail on boardwalk with handgun holstered and a spare magazine.  Handgun loaded with 6 rounds with spare magazine/speedloader with 6 more rounds.

Procedure:  At the beep draw handgun and fire 2 rounds into the center mass of each target.  On slide lock or empty cylinder reload and repeat.

Scoring: Time + 0 for hits in kill zone, +1 for hits in the "-1" scoring ring, +3 for hits in the "-3" scoring ring, +5 for misses.  Lowest score wins.

Scenario 3 - Home (not so) Alone

This is a self-defense scenario.  You arrive home to find lights on in your house.  911 is over 20 minutes away.  It's up to you.

SETUP & Procedure: 3 IDPA targets @ 7 yards.  Handgun loaded with 6 rounds and Holstered.  Spare Magazine or Speedloader on person.  At the beep, draw and fire 6 rounds target 1.  On Slidelock, or empty revolver, move to window and reload with 6 rounds.  Double tap the second and third targets, then do a headshot on each target.

Scoring: Time + 0 for hits in kill zone, +1 for hits in the "-1" scoring ring, +3 for hits in the "-3" scoring ring, +5 for misses.  Lowest score wins.

Scenario 4 - .410 Pump Shotgun

Pump shotguns are very reliable.  The sound alone is enough to make most bad guys mess their pants.  Each shooter will have the opportunity to fire two rounds at the target.

SETUP & Procedure: B8 target at 10 yards.  Load with 5 rounds.

Scoring: Each shooter gets 5 points for each round fired to a maximum of 10 points.
