Blast From the Past – Bill LaPointe

With the passing of Earle Darby, I have taken on the job as club Historian.  This column is a new addition to our monthly newsletter to share the history of Cherokee Gun Club with our members and I am asking for your help.  At present, we have a three page history of the club covering more than 50 years.  With your input, it is my intention to greatly expand the detail of that history.  I want to start with the very beginning of the club simply because many of the founding members have already passed away and I don’t want the club to lose the details of where we came from and how we got here.  I believe that our history is an important part of our continued growth and vital to our future decision making process.  As you read the upcoming articles I would appreciate any memories that they may bring to mind along with any photos that you may have accumulated over the years.  As you share those memories with me, try to include a specific time reference that they occurred.  The more accurate and detailed, the better.  Please make sure that you include your name and contact information with any photos that you send me so that I can return them to you after we duplicate them.  As we gather this information we plan to digitally archive it to preserve it for our future members.  I want to give special thanks to Paul Clarkson, member #23 and John Cronic, member #22

for spending a lot of time providing me with the starting point of Cherokee Gun Club’s beginings.  Both of these gentlemen were among our  club’s “founding fathers” along with several others that have passed away.  Starting next month, I will begin sharing some of the memories that Paul and Jon have related to me, along with others from you as they come in.  I’m looking forward to a really fun and interesting time……….

Here’s a teaser.

Do you know where this came from

and where it is today?  Let me know!
